Soak red beans overnight. Drain and cook in fresh water for 1 hour until soft.

Add rock sugar to the cooked beans and simmer until sugar dissolves. Let cool.

Fill a bowl or glass generously with shaved ice or crushed ice.

Spoon sweetened red beans over the ice. Add coconut milk or evaporated milk if desired.
